| Roger Spacey took an earlier train on Friday, eager to get a head start on some chores at home so hed have more time on the weekend with his 2-year-old granddaughter Madison.
He wanted to get home early to get ready for her visit, said his son Chris Spacey, 30.
His father, a 60 year-old manager of Anderson Printing in Glendale, was also hoping to put in some time working on the yard of his Simi Valley home, he said.
His son last saw him at the beginning on Sept. 7, Grandparents Day.
Roger Spacey and his wife Elizabeth of more than 35 years lived a few years in South America before settling in California. They moved to Simi Valley in 1982.
The couple have one other son, Matt, 33, who is Madisons father.
Spacey, whose childhood in England had left him for a love of trains and the soccer team Chelsea of the English Premier League, also rode in the first car, his son said.
Ever since he started riding (Metrolink) he was just fired up to take the train, his son said.
His company had moved locations a little over two years ago making it simpler to take the train than take his usual carpool. For a short time he walked from his home to the Simi Valley Metrolink station, but the two or three miles made it take too long.
He was the kind of guy who if my mom asked him to go get a carton of milk hed rather walk, his son said. |
